Meet Our Doctors

Meet Dr. Whitney Territo: a leading provider of vision care products and services in State College and surrounding communities.

Dr. Whitney Territo is a Central Pennsylvania native. She knew at a young age she was going to be an optometrist from the positive influence her father had given her being an optometrist himself. She graduated from Bedford High School in 2009 and went on to complete her undergraduate studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After 3 years at IUP, she was accepted into The Ohio State University College of Optometry. She graduated from Ohio State Summa Cum Laude, receiving her Doctorate in Optometry in May 2016. Dr. Territo was awarded the Beta Sigma Kappa Silver Medal upon her optometry graduation, signifying the attainment of the highest GPA of her graduating class. She was also selected to be the 2016 recipient of the Low Vision Rehabilitation Clinical Excellence Award. Additionally, Dr. Territo was chosen as the Class of 2016 Graduate of the Year for her clinical excellence and academic achievements.

While at Ohio State, Dr. Territo completed an ocular disease rotation at the Hefner Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, NC and advanced externship at Novus Clinic in Akron, OH. Her clinical interests lie in primary care optometry in patients of all ages and the management and treatment of diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and dry eye syndrome. She is also passionate about low vision rehabilitation and continues to advocate for patients who have sustained irreversible vision loss.

Dr. Territo has been in private practice for the past 6 years. She is an active member of the American and Pennsylvania Optometric Associations. She is past governor of the Zone 6 Ohio Optometric Association and past Membership Trustee of the Central Ohio Optometric Association. She is currently Vice President of the Mid-Counties Pennsylvania Optometric Association.

In July 2021, Dr. Territo and her husband, Dr. John Manard – a fellow optometrist, purchased Eyes on the Diamond from Dr. Harvey Hanlen.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano and traveling. She is an active volunteer at the Bedford County Humane Society. Together, Dr. Territo and her husband are avid bird watchers and enjoy traveling to unique places in search of a rare bird to add to their life list.

Meet Dr. Scott Bauer

Dr. Scott Bauer is a native of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Central Cambria High School in 2014. He attended The Pennsylvania State University

in University Park, PA, receiving his bachelor of science degree in kinesiology in 2018. Following graduation, Dr. Bauer attended The Ohio State University College of Optometry, receiving his doctorate of optometry in 2022. While at Ohio State, he completed an externship rotation in ocular disease at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT, as well as an advanced practice rotation at Upper Arlington Family Practice in Upper Arlington, OH. He received specialty contact lens experience in rotations at Havener Eye Institute at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH and the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. Dr. Bauer practices primary care optometry for all ages, and is passionate about treating ocular disease, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, and macular degeneration. 

Dr. Bauer is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Pennsylvania Optometric Association.

In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Dr. Bauer and his wife, Dr. KateLynn Bauer – a fellow optometrist, live in State College, PA with their corgi, Ducky. They enjoy hiking and traveling around the country to enjoy our nation’s national parks.

 

 


Dr. Harvey P. Hanlen – Retired from Practice in 2021

Photo Dr. HanlenHarvey P. Hanlen, OD, FAAO was in private Optometric practice for over 45 years in the State College area. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Maryland and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1974. He was the President of the Mid-Counties Optometric Society in 1978, served as the President of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association in 1982 and served as the 78th President of the American Optometric Association, completing his term in June, 2000. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, now Salus University, for 6 years.

Dr. Hanlen has been the recipient of many awards, including:

  • P.O.A. Optometrist of the Year (1987)
  • P.C.O. Alumnus of the Year in (1987)
  • P.C.O. Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters (2000)
  • P.O.A. H. Ward Ewalt, Jr. OD Meritorious Service Award (2013, the organization’s highest honor).

Dr. Hanlen remains fiercely committed to the profession of optometry. He continues to serve as the Pennsylvania Vision Source Administrator and remains active in the Pennsylvania Optometric Association. Dr. Hanlen is married to the former Darla Miller who is a State College local and graduated from State College High School. They have 5 children together along with 7 grandchildren.
